Many documentaries have promised us an 'authentic look behind the scenes' in the past. But none of them have been as comprehensive and informative as 9 TO 5 DAYS IN PORN. Jens Hoffmann's movie covers all the bases and leaves no stone unturned. The director is unbiased in his approach; together with his team he chases after some of the most important people in the industry (e.g. Mark Spiegler, John Stagliano and Belladonna). Other protagonists include German-born Katja Kassin and Audrey Hollander who represent a particular type of performer that is almost ubiquitous in the international porn industry. Hoffmann never asks unnecessarily provocative questions and doesn't romanticize the industry either, yet he still remains somewhat critical of his subjects. Interview topics include friendships between porn stars, family backgrounds, happy moments and performing for the camera. Less glitzy aspects like drug abuse are also touched. In the end, we realize once again that porn stars are people too. They have weaknesses, strengths, highs and lows. A great documentary that comes highly recommended!
