About This Isn't Fifty Shades Of Grey
The book trilogy "Fifty Shades Of Grey" by British writer E. L. James focuses on a female student who is in a sexually submissive relationship with an older business man. The books, which sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, contain a number of smart but candid tales full of explicit S&M sex.
Jim Powers puts his own stamp onto the literary bestseller with this hardcore adaptation aimed at couples and female viewers. The leads are played by ORGAZMIK 'Eye-Catcher' Allie Haze (in the role of Anastasia Steele) and beau Ryan Driller (as Christian Grey). Apart from tender sex scenes and a rather frivolous fancy dress party, the movie also features light S&M touches (soft bondage and spanking). The movie's most sensual moment revolves around a blind-folded Allie Haze and some ice cubes ...
A highly erotic porn movie for couples, shot by a director who is usually known for more excessive adult action.

They call this 'mommy porn'. I simply call it 'neither/nor' porn. The reason for this is evident even before the movie begins: the menu gives viewers a choice between watching the 'Movie with Story' (aimed at couples and women) and the 'Wall-to-Wall' version (for men). So the movie is neither a completely satisfying couple-friendly flick, nor a brutal, no-nonsense hardcore romp. Looks like someone was trying to please everyone out there. I'm not sure Jim Powers was the right director for this material (he is usually more interested in gonzo excesses).
But he does try hard to keep both camps entertained, I have to say. FIFTY SHADES OF GREY sort of lends itself easily to a couple-friendly treatment. The male lead performer is definitely worthy of playing this important role and Allie Haze is her usual unbeatable self. But the rest of the cast is made up of blond silicone sensations that look like they're in the wrong movie. I seriously doubt that female viewers will find those blow-up babes very appealing. The locations are worse, though. They look shabby and unoriginal and miss the luxurious appeal of the novels. I am sorry to say that none of this looks very sexy at all!
The one thing that Powers knows how to direct, however, is the sex. There are many tender moments between the performers (e.g. taking a girl's sneakers off before sex, pleasuring her orally or with ice cubes). The S&M elements also feel very passionate, sensual and well-integrated. The camera work is good and also focuses on the male performers during the sex. Female viewers might be turned off by the obligatory close-ups, though. Clearly, this is where Powers' gonzo past shines through!
Overall, this movie falls short of my expectations - but director Jim Powers almost redeems himself with some imaginative sex scenes. I guess I would rate this flick as couple-friendly in the end, even though some elements feel a bit out of place. It looks like Powers was too keen on pleasing everybody with this movie. But by doing so, he almost managed to alienate the core audience of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.

While I didn't read any of the books this is based on, but the media hype surrounding them was hard to ignore. Like it or not, there's no way around this porn adaptation. 'Smash Pictures' seem an unlikely candidate for this project, though. They're known for their gonzo flicks and that's about it. Having said that, the XXX adaptation of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY turned out surprisingly well. Ryan Driller is expertly cast as the male lead and delivers a good performance. Allie Haze (in the role of the student) also does a commendable job. One must note, though, that most of the sex scenes in this movie revolve around the characters of Anastasia (Allie Haze) and Christian Grey (Ryan Driller). There's not much variety except for very sexy Femdom scene and a scene featuring Anastasia's sub-tenant and Grey's brother.
The growing relationship between Anastasia and Christian is convincingly directed; the movie does begin at a rather slow pace, though. The opening interview drags on for too long. The sex scenes are quite stimulating throughout and grow in intensity towards the end. Be advised, though, that most fantasies deal with issues of domination/submission. Open-minded viewers will find the practices quite instructional, though.
Generally speaking, the dominant party in an S&M sessions rarely has sex with the slave. This isn't the case here. Then again, the movie (or the book) doesn't claim to follow the S&M rules or even cater to a die-hard S&M audience. Hence most of the practices are quite timid compared to other S&M flicks out there. There are also some scenes in this movie that feature no S&M elements at all. The one thing I didn't like about this movie is the set decoration. Most of the interiors are designed in a mock-Victorian style, but the furniture looks rather cheap. I seriously doubt that a successful young business man like Grey would choose to live like that!
