About Catherine
Catherine (Audrey Hollander) suffers from frightening erotic visions. A woman that looks exactly like her but is dressed in a Victorian costume lives out her sexual desires in an in-between world. Michael Ninn's long-awaited work is now here in all its glory. The images are opulent, the sex routine, the story thin, very thin. Ninn's movies are like a trip to the mall at Caesar's Palace Hotel in Las Vegas: The sets are nicely decorated, the wares seem expensive but behind the glamorous facade lies the machinations of a clever marketing strategist who sells a big illusion of a designer product made with very little effort. But who cares? It's pornographic Hollywood made in Hungary at its best. Perfect wrapping - little content.

Ok, this story is as inconsistent as it's unrealistic, but alas, the story or the plot is not what matters in a porn-film. The special thing about this film is its imagery: the aestheticism which is attained by the interplay of costumes, sets, music, lighting and, last but not least, the merry fucking that's going on, is Ninn-like extraordinary. To me it's a nightmare I would name thus: Gothic Horror meets Porn Glam. (Sir Simon)
