About Bacchanale

The strangely erotic dream of a young woman on a metaphysical journey. A weird creature - half god, half devil - is hot on her heels as she dances at parties, engages in slightly morbid cemetery sex and stumbles through a rather prehistoric (but erotic) vision of hell. The movie's climax will remind some viewers of the Buddhist elements of Hermann Hesse's novel 'Siddharta'.

This cult classic from the 1970s has finally surfaced on DVD - in decent quality to boot. Directed by the Amero Brothers, BACCHANALE is an obscure arthouse porn flick, part experimental movie and part psycho thriller. Although it will probably confuse you more than it will excite you, BACCHANALE is still worth watching because it's one hell of a trip.

BACCHANALE is some kind of psycho-delic art porn from the early 70s. The plot is rather murky and probably the result of too much LSD. The movie appears to be about a young woman on a journey of self-discovery. While some will write off the subtext as pseudo-philosophical bullshit, one has to marvel at the movie's technical brilliance. That said, casual porn viewers will probably be less impressed by BACCHANALE than film or art students. While I'd love to see this movie find a wider audience, I am also aware that it's most definitely a niche product. But despite its difficult marketability, the movie is absolutely great!
