An unflinching documentary about the ups and downs of 13-inch-spearboy John C. Holmes. WADD features many clips from Holmes' classics like THE RISE OF THE ROMAN EMPRESS (starring Ciccolina) and THE PRIVATE PLEASURES (his only gay movie), as well as interviews with the opinion makers in the US adult industry (e.g. Larry Flint, John Leslie and Ron Jeremy). The menu includes a bio of John Holmes, deleted scenes, bonus sex scenes and many other extras. WADD was awarded 'Best Documentary Feature' at the 1999 South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival in Austin, Texas. This VCA version features all of the explicit hardcore footage not shown in theaters!

This porn documentary is an absolute must for all who have an interest in the history of porn movies in general and John C. Holmes in particular. There's statements from contemporaries who've actually got something substantive to say. This, combined with lots of clips from the archives, paint a fascinating and enlightening picture of those days. If you know the movie 'Boogie Nights' (whose director P. T. Anderson gets a say here too), you'll enjoy spotting the many parallels bewteen fact and 'fiction'.

Director Cass Paley spent three years researching the family and business affairs of porn legend John C. Holmes (who died of AIDS in 1988). Though Paley doesn't come up with any new facts, his documentary nonetheless offers an interesting look into the life of the impossibly hung cult character. The many opposing views of Holmes voiced throughout the movie are especially noteworthy (Holmes gets described as 'sweet and gentle' one minute and as a 'loser' and 'sad sack' the next). Though WADD is at times a bit too melodramatic for its own good, it's still a sensitive portrait of Johnny Holmes that ultimately does justice to his tortured soul.

An excellent documentary about the turbulent and tragic life of probably the most famous (aside from Ron Jeremy), porn actor of all times. He who, because of the length of his dick and huge cocain-consumption, frequently fainted on the set. The movie caused quite a stir at the Chicago Underground Filmfestival in 1998.
